Valensole's Plateau: a unique site

Plateau de Valensole

Discovering Valensole's Plateau

15 minutes drive from Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, at an altitude of 590m, in the south of Alpes de Haute Provence department is Valensole. This village gave its name to the plateau on which it was settled. Valensole's Plateau is known to produce lavender for more than a century. This agriculture spreads over a thousand endless fields which, during the blossoming season, become purple and turn the scenery into a dreamlike place. The small country roads and the winding paths make it a accessible place for biking or hiking through these lavender and wheat fields.

Lots of places are to be discovered in this beautiful part of Provence through all kinds of activities and new experiences to do on our own, with our families, our lovers or friends. The nearby lakes of Sainte-Croix and Esparron allows you to enjoy water activities (pedal boats, kayak, paddles, electric boats...) in pure water and wild landscapes. All types of trips are possible to enjoy the landscapes: with a quad, a horse or in a minibus, are just a few examples. If you want to leave the ground and see everything from up high: you can always paraglide or get in an hot air balloon !

Valensole's Plateau, an agricultural site

You will find one of the most famous Provençale's parfume plant on Valensole's Plateau: lavender. With an altitude of 500m, the lands of the Plateau spread on 800km². The proximity with the Mediterranean sea and the nearby summits of the Alps allow the region to benefit from a perfect climate with a combinasion of forests and fields (oak and pine forests aswell as lavender, wheat, fennel fields...).

Depending on the season, the Plateau will change colors: white during the winter (with the blossoming of Almond trees and the snow on the Alps summits), purple and yellow during the summer (with the lavender, the wheat and the sunflowers fields). In November it's the red ocher of the ground that shines against the blue of the sky.

The Provence's lover cannot miss the lavender season (mid-June to mid-July), with endless purple fields leaving you with the purest scent. Moreover, to enjoy this paricular season, the Tourist Office has put together LavandEvasion, a two weeks festivities with lots of way to discover those sceneries !
