A unique territory

One territory, labels

Between unspoilt nature, remarkable geology and sustainable development, welcome to the heart of a labelled territory! Moustiers is located at the crossroads of two structures: the Verdon Regional Natural Park and the Haute-Provence Geopark. These two complementary labels bear witness to the richness of our territory and the strong commitment of our region to the preservation of the environment, the enhancement of heritage and respectful tourism.

The Verdon Regional Natural Park

Created in 1997, the Verdon Regional Natural Park covers more than 180,000 hectares, straddling the departments of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Var. It brings together 54 municipalities united around a common territory project. The park focuses on the protection of natural environments, the enhancement of cultural and landscape heritage, and the support of residents and visitors towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

From the Gorges du Verdon to the lavender plateaus, via villages and lakes, the Park works to preserve this environment while supporting local actors : farmers, craftsmen, accommodation providers, communities.

Its main missions:

  • Raising public awareness of ecology and heritage
  • Preserving biodiversity and landscapes
  • Promoting local know-how and local products
  • Encouraging soft and responsible tourism
  • Supporting municipalities in their sustainable projects

The Maison du Parc du Verdon welcomes you to the heart of the Domaine de Valx.

Haute-Provence Geopark

The first Geopark in the world to be recognised by UNESCO in 2000, the Haute-Provence Geopark covers a huge territory, from the Alps to the Durance, including several villages in the Verdon. It is committed to making known and protecting a unique geological heritage, hundreds of millions of years old.

Marine fossils, spectacular folds, rare rocks, but also traces of thousand-year-old human occupation: the Geopark highlights the close links between geology, history and society.

Its objectives:

  • Connecting science, culture and tourism
  • Protecting geological heritage and making it accessible to all
  • Encourage educational and cultural initiatives around geology
  • Promoting local development based on the identity of the territory

Responsible tourism

Belonging to a labelled territory is not only a recognition: it is a responsibility. As a Tourist Office, we actively support these approaches, and encourage everyone – visitors, residents, professionals – to become involved in the preservation of our living environment.

Choosing our territory means discovering a different Provence: authentic, respectful of nature, rich in human encounters and living know-how.
