Friday, 12 December 2025, at 6 p.m., at the Salle Jean-Marie Plume, presentation of the booklet ‘Le Portail’ with its authors Jacques Lecugy & Luc Vang, who will be delighted to sign copies for you!
Who is this mysterious female figure, winged and bifurcated?
Whose coat of arms does this emblem represent?
What is the meaning behind these sculptures adorning the magnificent portal of the Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir chapel in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie?
Come along on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., to the Jean-Marie Plume room in Moustiers, where Jacques Lecugy and Luc Vang will present the results of their research on this Renaissance-style portal, which has led to the publication of a 40-page booklet by the Moustiers Tourist Office entitled
THE GATEWAY TO THE CHAPEL OF NOTRE-DAME-DE-BEAUVOIR IN MOUSTIERS-SAINTE-MARIE, PROPOSALS FOR A REASONED INTERPRETATION
whose text (Jacques Lecugy) and photographs (Luc Vang) demonstrate that the motifs featured on the portal are not only decorative but also have a meaning linked to the chapel's former purpose as a a “sanctuary of respite” for centuries, and, on the other hand, make it possible to name the family of the donor whose emblem appears in two places, carved on the portal.
The presentation with commentary of the beautiful photographs of the sculptures on the portal will be followed by a convivial moment (buffet, sale of the booklet, and book signings).
Free admission.
NB: This research will result in a contribution to the symposium La Renaissance en Provence (The Renaissance in Provence) organised by the Fédération historique de Provence (FhP), the Association d’études sur la Renaissance, l’Humanisme et la Réforme (RHR) and the Bibliothèque l’Alcazar in Marseille in June 2026.
