Hiking in the Gorges du Verdon

Europe’s deepest canyon, the Gorges du Verdon offer spectacular hiking terrain, with breathtaking cliffs, holm oak forests and turquoise rivers. From Moustiers-Sainte-Marie or the neighbouring villages, set off to discover some legendary trails. Each route promises total immersion in a grandiose, unspoilt environment.

In the Gorges, the Imbut trail has been closed by prefectoral decree since 2022 and remains inaccessible for safety reasons.

The Blanc Martel trail

The Blanc-Martel is undoubtedly the best-known hike in the Verdon. This route takes you deep into the canyon. Along the one-way route, you’ll come across numerous viewpoints between the start at Chalet de la Maline and the finish at Point Sublime. This trail takes you right into the heart of the Gorges. Don’t forget your torch (or charged mobile phone) at the end of the trail, as you’ll pass through some unlit tunnels. The trail is very busy in summer, so if you can, try to do it in spring or autumn

As this is a one-way trip, a shuttle service is available from April to October. The shuttle will take you from the car park in La Palud-sur-Verdon to the starting point of the hike (the Chalet de la Maline). The shuttle will pick you up at Point Sublime at the end of your walk and take you back to your vehicle.
