The villages around Lake Sainte-Croix
In 2024, Lake Sainte-Croix celebrated its 50th anniversary! This iconic lake, with its turquoise waters and sumptuous natural setting, comes alive at the crossroads of six villages: Aiguines, Bauduen, Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, Les Salles-sur-Verdon, Baudinard-sur-Verdon… and of course Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, located just a stone’s throw away. Discover these gems perched around the lake.

Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, panoramic views and relaxation
Facing the lake, Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon sits on a promontory and offers well-equipped beaches and remarkable views. Its water sports activities and charming little town centre are perfect for a stroll, while the natural area has been revitalised since its renovation following the creation of the dam in 1973.
Aiguines, the balcony over the lake
Perched at the foot of the Grand Margès, Aiguines overlooks Lake Sainte-Croix and marks the gateway to the Gorges du Verdon. This typical Provençal village stands out for its castle, its woodturning museum and its flower-filled streets. The panoramic view from Saint-Pierre Chapel is unforgettable.
Bauduen, the amphitheatre village
Just 35 minutes from Moustiers, Bauduen stretches out like an amphitheatre along the water’s edge, in a picture-postcard setting. Narrow streets, medieval ruins, Saint-Pierre Church and the toy museum all contribute to the charm of this place, which is ideal for strolling around, enjoying lunch by the water and exploring the surrounding area.
Les Salles-sur-Verdon, a village reborn
Flooded when the lake was created, Les Salles-sur-Verdon was rebuilt on higher ground between 1973 and 1977. Explore its modern centre with its authentic atmosphere, admire the restored fountain and wash houses, remnants of its former submerged site. A village with a surprising past and a resilient spirit.
Baudinard-sur-Verdon, nature and cliffs
Perched on a rocky outcrop, Baudinard-sur-Verdon offers an immersion in limestone and gorges. With its Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde chapel, hamlets, caves and 100- to 150-metre-high cliffs, the village appeals to hikers and lovers of wild panoramas.
The Lake Festival
Lake Sainte-Croix celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024! Half a century of history has transformed the area and the surrounding villages. In September 2025, the Lake Festival is back! Expect a festive programme of entertainment, shows and commemorations in the various villages.
