Detailed description

Karen Lano is an author, composer and performer.

On the move, fiercely independent and free, Karen is driven by an inner quest and a musicality that is as wandering as it is sensory, as voluptuous as it is hospitable. She plays with gravity as if she were swinging in a hammock. A fusion of craftsmanship and luxurious arrangements. It's a fusion so masterful that it gives off beneficial vibrations. The artist who started out in her high school years bears the mark of influences somewhere between Kate Bush and Bertrand Belin, and of a wide range of experiences. She has toured the world with the Orchestre National de Jazz on the Broadway in Satin programme, recorded a critically acclaimed debut album, ‘My name is hope’, in New York with Michael Leonhart (Mark Ronson, Lenny Kravitz), covered Queens of The Stone Age in a collective project initiated by Olivier Libaux (Nouvelle Vague), gradually opened up to singing in French and set up her own label. Or offer the keys to his 2nd album in 2020, ‘Muses’, to the invaluable duo Facteurs Chevaux.

Karen Lano imposes a vibrant, decadent folk style, attuned to the feminist and environmental issues of the day, as well as to sisterhood. Delicate and voluptuous, sensitive and bewitching, intimate, it's a timeless palette of tawny colours. Velvet, lyricism, relief, enveloping. Karen Lano never loses along the way the evocative power of her silences, the urgency of her false quietude. The purity of her enchanting vocals overhangs arpeggios of guitar, dreamy layers of keyboards and sweet incursions of flugelhorns and trumpets.

His new album, ‘L'âge d'or’, has had an enchanting run: a Radio France Coup de Cœur, broadcast on Fip and France Bleu Normandie, among others, it also featured in the Etoiles de la Semaine, with recommendations from France Inter, Libération, Taratata, TV5 Monde and BFM TV. It is listed as one of the 8 must-have albums by Francofans, and has been reviewed in Le Monde, Hexagone, Ouest France, etc.

‘To say that the whole is marked by grace is the least of politenesses’ - Francofans
‘I love it all. Delicate and heady arpeggios, chic and powerful arrangements, sophisticated and enveloping melodies: from the 1st listen, it sounds like a bedside record’ - Sylvie Hoarau (Brigitte)
