The Canyon of the Verdon: a play field for nature lovers and hikers
The Canyon of the Verdon offers multiple choices of marked trails. Beginners and confirmed hikers, you will find what you’re looking for.
The Blanc-Martel trail is the most famous hiking trail
Just before the 20th century, the Canyon of the Verdon had never been explored. Edouard-Alfred Martel and Isidore Blanc both realized an entire exploration of the Canyon in 1905. It wasn’t easy. With removable canoes, members of the expedition had to face dangerous and strong current as the Verdon river wasn’t controlled by dams at the time. It is the Tourisng Club of France who created the Blanc-Martel trail (situated between Chalet de la Maline and Point Sublime). This trail only goes one way and allows you to get very close to the Verdon river. Starting at the Point Sublime, you will have the possibility to do only part of the trail. Follow the indicaton “Couloir Samson”. Going back and forth, you’ll discover the tunnels of the Blanc-Martel trail and the Trescaïre point of view on the vertiginous landscapes surrounding you. Beware: you will need flash lights for the tunnels.
opening in March 2023 !
Other hiking trails with outstanding point of views in the Canyon of the Verdon

The “Plein Voir” trail via the “Donkey pass” (col de l’âne), will offer you an outstanding view of both the Canyon and the Sainte-Croix Lake. Beware: this trail is for confirmed hikers.
